This is the second to last “missive” I will have for you in 2018. Where has the time gone? To say I have enjoyed sharing my thoughts with you this past year is an understatement. I truly have.
I know some of my messages where easier to follow than others. You connected with some, while others missed the mark. I never promoted myself as a Harvard graduate. (UMASS) But, they all made sense to me, and I suppose if there is any validity to the saying, “Be true to yourself,” I was right on the money this past year.
Another reminder just flashed through my head, and that comes from a song from the country singer Kathy Mattea. She highly recommended in song that we should “Sing like we don’t need the money. Love like you’ll never get hurt. Dance like nobody’s watching. It has to come from the heart, if you want it to work.”
What you have personally accomplished in the past 12 months is very cool and you should be very proud of yourself. But, I must gently remind you that all you have achieved up to this point in your life has instantly become yesterday’s news. As cool and prestigious as it may seem to you, it is now in your past. It is time to regroup, trim your sails and point your boat toward your next destination.
I am absolutely convinced, (my opinion) that you are a good, honest, hard working, well-intentioned travel professional. I know this to be true since “slugs” don’t take the time to read and actively learn from other’s experiences. You do. And this positions you on the “A” Team as far as I am concerned.
So, with just one more missive to go this year, I want to extend a challenge to you for 2019. I want you to continue doing what you are doing, but I want you to make sure you are not holding back in the personality department. I want you to stop playing to the wrong audience. You know what is right and you know what is right for you.
In 2019 I want you “sing like you don’t need the money. Love like you’ll never get hurt. I want you to dance like nobody’s watching. I want you to lead with your heart to make certain it will all work.”
