G Adventures: Changing the World through Community Tourism

When it comes to travel, we often think about the sights we’ll see, the food we’ll eat, and the experiences we’ll have. But what if we could travel in a way that not only benefits us, but also the communities we visit? That’s where G Adventures comes in.

Founded in 1990 by Bruce Poon Tip, G Adventures is not just a travel company, but a social enterprise. Their tours are built upon meaningful relationships with local communities, and directly benefit the people and places they visit. But their impact goes beyond just the destinations they serve. It includes their employees, supplier and agent partners, small business owners, customers, social followers, travelers, and media. Their mission is simple, yet powerful: to change the world just by helping people have the time of their life. And they’ve been doing just that for over 30 years.

From a garage apartment in Toronto, Bruce Poon Tip had the idea to create a small group adventure company that bridged the gap between backpacking and coach tours. He wanted to develop tours that got to the heart of a destination and allowed travelers to meet the people who live there. So, he maxed out two credit cards to fund his startup, and launched two tours in Ecuador and Belize.

Since then, G Adventures has grown into the world’s largest small group adventure travel company, with over 750 tours on all seven continents. But their commitment to sustainable and responsible tourism remains at the core of everything they do. Through their tours, G Adventures supports small businesses and helps communities to help themselves.

But they don’t stop there. Their travelers contribute to local economies and fund the development of G for Good projects that strengthen the communities they encounter. In fact, they believe that travel can become the greatest form of wealth redistribution the world has ever seen.

One of their most unique offerings is National Geographic Journeys with G Adventures. These tours are designed to take travelers deeper into the cultures and habitats of the places they explore. They offer more inclusion, greater hands-on exploration, interactions with local experts, and the freedom to roam—all within the structure and security of traveling in a small group.

What truly sets G Adventures apart is their commitment to their five core values: We Love Changing People’s Lives, Lead With Service, Embrace the Bizarre, Create Happiness & Community, and Do the Right Thing. These values form the foundation of their strong company culture, known collectively as G Nation, and are embodied by all staff, both inside and outside the company.

G Adventures is also committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion in all of their operations. They are continuously improving diversity and being transparent about their progress. At the end of the day, G Adventures is about more than just travel. It’s about making a positive impact on the world through community tourism. And we can all be a part of their mission, one adventure at a time.
